Bjork was born and raised in Reykjavik. Her musical career began aged 11 with her study of classical piano in elementary school. In 1992 The Sugarcubes split up. Bjork moved to London to pursue a solo career; she began working with producer Nellee Hooper, who had produced for Massive Attack, among others. At the 1994 BRIT Awards Bjork won the awards for Best International Female and Best International Newcomer. In 1997, the album Homogenic was released. n August 2004, Bjork performed the song "Oceania" at the Opening Ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
