I.I. Vasyuk: "Only those achieve results who overcome laziness"

Shchuchinsk handball players are rightfully considered one of the strongest young athletes in the region. The success of our team is largely due to its coach, I.I. Vasyuk, an enthusiastic person who knows how to ignite the spirit of competition and set the guys up for victory.
- I've been playing handball since the fourth grade, - says Ivan Ivanovich. - My first coaches were Valery Leonidovich Drut and Viktor Makarovich Kulachenkov. The training took place at the sports complex, where Shchuchinsk pilots learned how to jump with a parachute. This is exactly what influenced my choice of a future profession: at that time, all boys dreamed of getting behind the controls of an airplane, and I was no exception.
After graduating from high school, I.I. Vasyuk entered the Voronezh Higher Aviation School, but soon realized that this was not his vocation and dropped out. Returning to Shchuchin, he met his former coach V.N. Kulachenkov, who advised him to continue his sports career.
- I have successfully passed the entrance exams to the Grodno College of Physical Education, - says Ivan Ivanovich. - As a student, I constantly participated in various competitions: I played for the national handball team of Grodno University, and traveled all over Belarus as part of the team. He graduated with a red diploma.
For eight years, I.I. Vasyuk successfully defended the gates of the regional team. During this time, he has established himself as a high-class athlete, a true professional. It is not surprising that he has been offered more than once to work as a coach in Minsk and Brest. However, Ivan Ivanovich decided to return to his small homeland.
- Shchuchin has a special atmosphere and a very strong energy, - says our interlocutor. - I feel calm and comfortable here: the hustle and bustle of big cities is not for me.
Having got a job at the Youth Sports School, I.I. Vasyuk set himself the task: to raise the Shchuchinsk handball team to a qualitatively new level, to prove that even guys from a provincial city, with proper attitude to training, can achieve great success in sports. And he did it perfectly!
- Together with coach German Vaclavovich Baycharov, we have seriously taken up the preparation of the Shchuchinsk handball team, - says Ivan Ivanovich. - We regularly conducted training sessions, during which the guys gained experience, hardened not only physically, but also mentally. And if the time has come for our students to prove themselves at regional-level competitions, they have fulfilled their expectations: in 2012 they became champions of the Grodno region. Then there were numerous international competitions, where Shchuchinsk handball players were also among the strongest.
By the way, Ivan Ivanovich Vasyuk's friends, Alexander Nikolaevich Karabaev, director of the airline company, and Valery Stanislavovich Mikhalovsky, an individual entrepreneur, regularly provide financial support to our athletes. Over the past two years alone, they have spent about 30 million rubles to support the district handball team.
"Our handball squad is known in the region as strong and determined rivals," Ivan Ivanovich notes with some pride. - Shchuchinsk handball players are often invited to play for the Grodno national team. By the way, my students Maxim Tsitsyak and Kirill Komar became champions of the Republic last year as part of the regional team. The young stars of Shchuchinsk handball, Artem Vartsaba, Denis Tarasevich, Andrey Laput, Grigory Russian, Kirill Dailida, have proved themselves well. I am sure they will have a great sporting future.
Despite the certain successes of our athletes, I.I. Vasyuk admitted that over the past few years the number of people who want to practice handball has decreased. And this is primarily due to the spread of computers and the Internet: many teenagers prefer computer games and social networks rather than playing sports. And this, in turn, has a very negative effect on the health of children: vision decreases, scoliosis and other diseases develop.
- Only those achieve results who overcome laziness, - Ivan Ivanovich is sure. - Unfortunately, some parents believe that it is better for their son or daughter to stay at home than risk injury in training. Thus, they are making a big mistake! On the contrary, sport educates children, makes them more disciplined, independent, responsible. My students are even outwardly very different from their peers - fit, organized. In their youth, they had already visited many cities of Belarus, even traveled abroad. All this develops spiritually and intellectually.
