Kalmykia's forestry needs support

The Federal Forestry Agency intends to allocate funds to the steppe region to strengthen forestry and forestry departments.

There is no money in the budget of Kalmykia to equip it, and the Federal Forestry Agency is going to allocate over eight million rubles to remedy the situation. In addition, the federal center has promised to transfer 15 million to the region for forest restoration.
In the meantime, fire safety in the forest areas of the republic is provided by the so-called mineralized strips. These are strips of land freed from combustible materials, as well as areas treated with special machines to the mineral layer of the soil. The result was that over the past few years there has not been a single fire in the forest belts.
The situation is also saved by the fact that there are not so many forest lands in Kalmykia - just over fifty thousand hectares, of which only a third is covered with forest.
Today, there are five forestry departments and eleven forestry enterprises in the region. The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan is implementing a special program aimed at strengthening the material base of forestry enterprises, designed for the period up to 2020.
The republican budget does not allocate funds for these purposes, and all work in the industry will be carried out at the expense of federal money.
